I Heart...Chloe Sevigny!

Style-wise, 33-year-old actress, designer and 'It' girl Chloe Sevigny is in a world of her own. She is a trendsetter, unafraid to break the rules, in fact, she makes the rules, and fashion-wise she is always 10 steps ahead of every other fashionaista. She is fearlessly original, effortlessly cool, and has style in the truest sense of the word.

Chloe has a unique beauty that is enhanced by her confident, rebellious sense of style and the way she rocks her assets and 'flaws' with equal aplomb. She is Hollywood's real-life Carrie Bradshaw: sometimes her fashion choices can leave a bad taste in your mouth, and she's not always beautiful, but that's not her objective, rather, she strives to and succeeds in expressing herself with veracity. She is always intriguing and never plays it safe at the expense of her self-expression.

Chloe's features, which could easily become plain on a woman of lesser character, are instead striking and oddly beautiful with her inherent style and deep, mysterious confidence to back them up. Her beauty is less American-girl than French chic, flawed but natural and accented by feminine confidence and inherent style. Whether in her style or choice of acting roles, Chloe does everything with a lemon twist: she is indie-cool yet not untouchable; her characters, though for the most part down-to-earth and relatable, tend to come with surprising quirks; and she is inherently feminine but with a slight masculine edge akin to that of Katherine Hepburn or Marlene Dietrich.

Chloe's acting choices echo her sense of style in their boundary-breaking boldness; in the shockingly raw 'KIDS', she played a HIV afflicted teen; in 'Brown Bunny' she performed fellatio on Vincent Gallo, blurring the lines between acting and porn, with many predicting her career would be over. In fact, her career has gone from strength to strength as she has recently expanded her repertoire to include mainstream and big-budget projects. After a guest spot on Will & Grace, she landed a leading role along Jake Gyllenhal in Zodiac. But the role she is now most widely known for is uptight housewife Nikki on the tv show 'Big Love'. Although, being Chloe, with whom nothing is without a subversive twist, Nikki isn't your everyday brand of stay-at-home mom, but the second of three wives in a polygamous marriage!

With legs to die for (mini's are her trademark-girlfriend knows how to flaunt her assets!), mysterious, heavy-lidded eyes and an impeccable carriage, Chloe is an inspiration for making the most of one's assets. She has the character to pull of her bold style and uses her flaws as assets to highlight her atypical beauty.

Chloe's courage, confidence and integrity come from the irrepressible trail-blazing, boundary-breaking spirit that is evident in all she does-whether in fashion, film, tv or life. She is the epitome of the 'It' girl, and a breath of fresh air in a fashion culture dominated by eager-to-please, cookie-cutter, zoe-bot celebri-tarts. Chloe's an acquired taste, but one worth aquiring, because love or hate her style choices, one thing she'll always be is utterly unique.

J'aime...les filles françaises!

You have to admit, French chicks have something the rest of us don't. Maybe it's their cool style or their I-don't-give-a-fuck-what-you-think (je m'en fous) attitude. Let's just call it a certain je ne sais quoi. Two of my favourite french filles are:

Graffiti artist 'Fafi'

In a art culture dominated by young macho guys, Fafi's fiercely feminine art stands out. Her 'fafinettes' are painted on buildings all over Paris and represent strong, fun, sexy women much like herself.

Singer, Actress and Poet Charlotte Gainsbourg

Charlotte, daughter of Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg, is the epitomy of French cool. Her beauty is far from cookie-cutter, rather, her attraction comes from her quiet confidence and simple, chic style. She stars in the quirky French comedies "I Do", and "My wife is an actress" which was written by, directed by and co-stars her real-life husband Yvan Attal. Her beautiful poetry is featured on Madonna's song "What if feels like for a girl" and it is Charlotte's soft, English-accented voice heard in the intro:

Girls can wear jeans
And cut their hair short
Wear shirts and boots
'Cause it's OK to be a boy
But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading
'Cause you think that being a girl is degrading
But secretly you'd love to know what it's like
Wouldn't you
What it feels like for a girl

Au revoir!

I Heart...Alice!

I am a totally straight (so far) girl, but I have loved the show "the L word" since it's humble beginnings. I remember when sweet, innocent little Jenny first came to West Hollywood and was shocked and awed by the sight of Shane, the local androgynous Casanova, making love to a random chick in Bette and Tina's swimming pool. I have watched the girls fight and fuck and lie and seduce and betray and live and die, and in my opinion it is one of the best tv shows ever made. To begin with, I totally identified with Jenny; a writer struggling to express herself and find her true path, driven by her dysfunctions and often a victim of her sensitive, emotional nature. But something happened over the years. I got a bit tired of Jenny's self-indulgence and ever so slowly, the sweet and lovely Alice found her way into my heart. Her humble, girl-next-door beauty combined with her humour, openess and acceptance of all make her the perfect role-model. She isn't perfect, nor does she pretend to be. She follows her heart and is fiercely honest, even in the face of pain and rejection. She has a quiet confidence and it is her deep self-acceptance that make her so open to love, in any form it takes.

So, to summarise: I Love Alice! And here are some more adorable pics...
